The Celidon Foundation (Source: www.celidon.org)Sep 6, 2007 The Celidon Foundation is working to develop, support, and advance a connected series of environmental education projects, scholarships, and public interest research designed to achieve a sustainable future for all humanity and the planet Earth.
THE CELIDON FOUNDATION (the Foundation) believes that future generations deserve to inherit a sustainable world. To assure this, private citizens, communities, corporations, and nongovernmental organizations are working with the Foundation to refocus the present generation and to educate a new generation of eco-literate individuals. The Foundation is also working to preserve precious ecosystems; provide for environmental research; develop green consciousness; and enable greater participation. Amongst the Foundation projects can be mention the following: Green Communities, Earth-Focused Schools, Conservation Centers, Ecological Preserves, Marine and Biological Research and University for a Sustainable Future. University for a Sustainable Future GOAL: To support the development of a new environmentally focused and integrated university which is in tune with UNESCO’s[1] vision that a sustainable future “will require an education that not only continues throughout life, but is also as broad as life itself, an education that serves all people, draws upon all domains of knowledge and seeks to integrate learning into all of life’s activities.” Two prominent land owners in the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica have agreed to donate a site for the University for a Sustainable Future. A formal announcement of this donation will be made at an international news conference to be held near the Papagayo Peninsula on September 5, 2007. This will be followed by a formal reception honoring the work of Dr. Jane Goodall. Detailed plans of Phase One of the University will also be introduced along with the Executives of the Celidon Foundation, donors, advisors, and distinguished guests. Earth-Focused Schools GOAL: To support the development of earth-focused primary and secondary schools throughout the world that aim to grow an eco-literate citizenry, that equip students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to make well informed environmental decisions, and that instill in learners the civic responsibility necessary to become kind and caring stewards of the Earth.Additional earth-focused schools will be established around the world to act as feeder schools into the University for a Sustainable Future.Scholarships GOAL: To enable children and adults throughout the world to engage in formal and community-based learning activities which promote a better understanding of our Earth and its natural resources. Ecological PreservesGOAL: To acquire and place in perpetual trust at-risk ecosystems. The Foundation will then utilize these as managed and environmentally focused laboratories for the benefit of students, teachers, researchers, visitors, and surrounding communities while at the same time protecting their natural habitat. With ecosystems disappearing at alarming rates, this is one of the most important aspects of the Foundation’s work. Conservation Centers GOAL: To enable communities located near sensitive environmental “hot spots” to establish conservation exhibit and education centers for the benefit of their own citizens, as well as visitors from around the world. Some of the world’s most important rainforests, marine habitats and other unique ecosystems are in danger of becoming extinct. Marine and Biological Research GOAL: To establish marine research and biological laboratories in remote locations around the world. These will be available to students, researchers, and their associates for short-term research. Study of the world’s oceans and biological habitats is vital to sustaining humanity and our planet Earth. The Foundation is working to establish facilities at remote sites to offer researchers and students unique opportunities for studying marine ecosystems. Green Communities GOAL: To instill a green consciousness within communities throughout the world. The Foundation will support ecologically sound programs that promote conservation, pollution prevention, and healthy, sustainable families. |
