Treasury proposes changes to tax law

(La Prensa Libre) — The Treasury Ministry is seeking ways to keep people and businesses from tax evasion through a new bill that would reform the Customs Law and the Tax Procedures Code. It’s not a legislation that would create new taxes, but rather change the way taxes are paid now to improve collection. Suggested changes include prohibiting taxpayers from making changes to their returns once they have filed them. The bill also attempts to establish ways to reduce the number of tax-evasion cases making it to court, as the penal route has yielded poor results so far — trying to implement alternative and more effective resolution alternatives. Other changes would include electronic filing.
